I hate D&D podcasts, it really revulses me to listen to lots of minutia and rules finagling. Rude Tales cuts aaaall of that crap and just lets me listen to these great performers improvving a story. Really great, highly recommended.
Do you like actual play podcasts but not so big on the rules? Rude Tales! Want a D&D podcast where it's more important to be funny than playing the game right? Then you should definitely check out Rude Tales. It's almost a parody of D&D tropes. One week you'll hear a chat with a demon running a hellish diner and sentient hearts of the forest the next. Vampires, elves, and lots of crude, crude humor. Check it out!
A fantastic, funny, and raunchy bunch of comedians tour you through the wacky world of Cordelia. Give this a listen if you want loads of laughs as this magical gang seeks to restore their college to the world.
RToM is a delight! Check it out, it's so much fun!
I was brought here by Oh These, Those Stars of Space! which features the same cast and crew. Together, these two shows now dominate my intake of comedy, full-stop. These folks improvise so well together that it feels scripted. The talent pool is diverse, each person is notable for their own specialties and pursuits. Combined, they produce some magical pieces of storytelling. Very adult and full of heart.
I would like it if Albee wasn't a character in it. I don't think she's cute, and I don't think her melodrama romance is interesting. It's the same old boring shit. Sometimes slow character growth in a story is just boring, and trying to be "realistic" in a D&D podcast that has a hive-mind goblin Mack truck is so incredibly jarring it breaks the suspension of disbelief.
Hey dipass, listen to this fuckin' podcast. Shit's solid.
Part of me wants to adapt the irreverent attitude of the show for this podcast, but I think I'm going to be real here for a moment. Rude Tales is a perfect example of an actual play podcast that doesn't super care about the game itself. Taking the rules as a prompt, Branson and the cast weave hilarious and surprisingly in-depth stories. The cast's experience with improv shows through, but the highlight is Branson's imaginative and somewhat disturbing antagonists. All in all, a great show, if you can stand them talking about piss every now and then.
